Alvin Ailey

I tried to find a clip of 'Revelations' to post here, but while they are so beautiful to me, they're not of the highest quality to share...especially if you haven't experienced Ailey's work before.
That being said, I watch videos of different performances of sections of his iconic 'Revelations' a lot... heart quake every single time.

Saltimbanco

Beloved took me to Cirque du Soleil's 'Saltimbanco' on the weekend. It was completely fantastic! I'd always wanted to see one of their shows and to share it with my sweetheart was even better. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Proud Mary

I've never been a 'natural' singer. I've always struggled with my voice; and my ear. Even when I got the lead role in one of our productions while I was at the Conservatorium, I heard my first singing teacher's voice in my head saying "Well...You've got your face. And you can dance... so that might just cover it". Bluuugh.
I die every time I have to sing live. My heart quakes, and my stomach houses 500 butterflies.
But...this is a song I'm never shy about. I love it. I imagine Tina in front of me, and just let go and belt it as best I can. It's my fall-back, 'always happy to perform this' number. Cher would be a bonus, but I try to make up for her absence with as many sequins as possible.

Love Hurts

Today was a rough ol' day. I've recently got a sweet little dance gig lined up, and today was a rehearsal. I was throwing myself into a line of cartwheels, and whilst I was upside down, I heard a loud 'click' and then felt an instant shot of pain shoot up into the base of my skull. I'd popped my neck out pretty badly.
I've done this so many times, I should really be numb to it by now. After so many years dancing, my body has it's own 'soft' spots; the parts that are always inclined to hurt more than others. My left leg, and left hip-flexor, are both far more flexible than my right side. You learn to compensate with as much 'game' as you can manage, but injuries never get easier, because it feels like your body has 'failed' to perform the task you set it.
Days like these; after I've had a little cry and re-heated the heat pack, I always watch videos of my #1 idol Ann Reinking. And I remember why dancing is my greatest happiness.

Perfect.

Sore Paw

Hi!! I've had a rough few days. Wednesday night I spilt boiling oil all over my left hand and watched as the skin covering my index and middle fingers recoiled and rolled up to the nail beds, just like blinds being pulled up. It was ghastly and I think I was in a significant amount of shock as the ambulance men had to wrap me in a sheet and sort everything out for me - in all the pain I forgot I was only wearing knickers and a camisole. Not a great look when combined with no shoes and a skinless hand. They started giving me morphine in the ambulance but nothing helped at all so they gave me quite a bit more in the emergency ward.
I'm horrified to say that I was wailing away on the phone to the long-suffering Bobby when it all whacked me half unconscious, and I started talking nuts, and they had to put the sides up on the bed so I didn't fall off. Glamorous.
Morphine is just about the worst thing ever. How anyone could ever get into opiates is beyond me - that shit hit me like a train and then left me violently ill. I was admitted the next day after I became dehydrated and couldn't stop vomiting the drugs up... and they also thought I would need skin grafts on my hand.
Not a happy Doll, at all. But re-hydration helped and having it dressed with silver (heals the burn, apparently), and then Mum arriving down to tell me to be a trooper, helped me through. And my poor mates being so supportive and loving... it's pretty lonely when you're waiting to find out if you need surgery while people around you are missing hectic amounts of skin in the Burns ward.
It was an answer to prayers when the doctors saw it this morning and told me that I don't need surgery - just a lengthy healing. The only thing to worry about is infection, but I'm being really sensible and have cancelled all my exercise program for the immediate coming week. Small price to pay to keep my hand repairing.
So, that's my news. I'm really tired again now, so I will post some awesome things tomorrow, and we shall have no more talk of burns. xo

Chanel's Delicious Tattoos.

Chanel's makeup king, Peter Phillips (he who made green nails covetable last season), has announced the launch of the limited edition trompe-l'oeil tattoo transfers. Wow!! I've been on the blower to the Sydney store and am on the wait-list (with, like 400 other birds). Want them on my person NOW!
